Only a few more days until I get to stun the world with my incredible design talents and release V6 (oh, I really wish that were true)!

I've just put the finishing touches. I really hope it's good enough this time. I'm fairly happy with it, and damn well should be, with the amount of work and time I've put into it. At least, I think it will last more than the other designs (versions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 all lasted less than a month before I started redesigning) So, set your clocks and plan your next few days around my release of version 6, the chaos emerald, at May 1st, 18:00 GMT.

The emerald will rise.

Oh oh oh, in other news, I finally realised a long-set goal and bought myself an official Star Wars lightsaber replica. Also, all philosophical theories inside ALL of my articles are completely original. Please include my article in your reference if using them inside a publication.

Yesterday, I was going to a restaurant. I decided to take a Taxi.

It so happened that the taxi that agreed to deliver me to the specified location had a man carrying a bird cage with two birds inside it. I was interested by the two birds because of their beauty and cuteness.

After a while, one of the birds started nibbling fiercely at the thin cage metal bars. His companion, after staring at him for a while, followed suit.

They were doing quite a progress together at weakening the metal bars and escaping before the cage owner realized and shooed them off the cage bars with his hand.

This incident engendered a great deal of thought. If you were to imprison animals into a perfect prison, how would you do that?

By, of course, not letting the animal know that they are being imprisoned in the first place.

Imagine if a small bird called Bubbles was bred inside a cage, which is a cube of glass, with only some tiny openings at the top for air and food. So Bubbles was born and lived inside his cage, without even knowing that an entirely different and huge world lay outside it. But Bubbles, through his glass walls, saw men, trees, etc. But he would think that this is exactly like we think the sky is.

Bubbles would not know he was imprisoned in the first place because he did not know any world other than his glass cage.

Now, how do you perfectly imprison a human being? Most human beings have brains that are developed more than any other animal, And driven by curiosity and much-higher-intelligence than Bubbles, will certainly break Bubble’s glass wall and venture outside the world.

So, you have to outsmart the humans to not think they are being imprisoned. What do you do? I now present to you Uncle Kobeissi’s home-made guide for pet humans!

1-Create an illusion so unfathomably huge with innumerable stars, and incredible perfection. Call it a universe.

2-Now this is a very tricky part. You need to somehow fast-forward a few billion years. I don’t know how In the world to do that, but I’m sure the reason we’re here does.

3-After a favorable planet has been created, call it Earth. Now, open your “Primitive organisms, just add water!” Sachet included with your Junior Universe Making Kit, and pour it into the planet’s water.

4-Fast forward a few million years.

And now, you have your own humans, who are ingeniously tricked to believing that they are free!

But, If we are created in this matter, I seriously don’t believe we are made to be pets. We have some more serious purpose. Study, maybe? No idea. But my point is, we are with no doubt doing what we are supposed to be doing, because the creator did not bother even telling us our purpose.

OK, time to end happy fun article. Before I go, I must say that there is a possibility that my theories are all wrong, and that all philosophy theories are wrong, because our brains may not function and our logic may be incredibly different comparing to the logic of the creator(s). Their logic could be so different that we could not even understand it. We may have been created for reasons that may appear so crazy, illogical and random to us, but not to them. Ultimately, our mathematics can be incredibly odd and illogical to them.
Cheers.

YShout - Finally a good AJAX Chatbox!

Digg has this great post about Yshout, a small package of AJAX chat that finally works.

A few months ago I was searching for such a package for my chess server, and the best package i could find would lag about 20 seconds, and doesn't even display nicknames. One of the comments was interesting:

I clicked on the link to your friends website and read his post. This young man obviously hasnt been indoctrinated in Islam. The library is a great draw for the mosque.(I remember the “childrens outreach” the local church had when I was growing up)This young man felt obligated to purchase a compass so he would know the direction of the prayer stone of Islam.(Kaaba)Why?
I think its naive’ to believe he isnt going to be influenced by his heritage. Its the same naivete’that prompts women to marry muslim men only to discover the woefull mistake later. When that teaching comes to fruition,I believe you will be dissapointed. The nut doesnt fall far from the tree.

Comment by Spazzmomma — April 9, 2006 @ 10:22 am

After reading, i decided to reply with the following:

Dear Spazzmomma:

The region i live in is the most extremist region in all of Lebanon. I live with devout muslims daily, and out of curiosity I have read the Koran in arabic and in english, and i have also read the life story of the muslim prophet Mohammed. Do not think that I am an igonrant who does not know islam or what he’s writing about. I read the muslim book throughly before making my decision to be an atheist.

As for the compass, i bought it because simply because i wanted a reminder to this trip. It’s simply a “souvenir”.

Plus, I must say that most of the muslims i live alongside with do not have any bad thoughts of the american people, they respect them, but dislike the american government strongly for what it has done to them.

Plus, the argument of islamic terrorists:

If Billy Bob blew himself up outside my house, would the news report him as a “mad terrorist” or as a “christian terrorist”?
Please think about it. The terrorists here in the middle east are simply using religion as a cover and to attract more idiots like them. American governments adapted the title “Islamic terroriost” because they want something to differenciate us from you, and what is more differentiating than religion! so, bush and co. probably thought: “Hey, lets make our people rightly hate those islamic terrorists, and subconsciously dislike all the other peaceful, rightful muslims in the middle east! It’s like hitting two birds with one stone! what a wonderful idea!! [That way we can make america hate the middle east and we can earn votes and support to attack middle eastern countries for our own profit! whee!]”

I have no more to say.

In the comment above, the text in between brackets was not in the original comment but was added by me just now.

I thought i needed to post this as it is quite interesting.

Beyond the Network

A hand typing on a keyboard. The great medium where minds meet without masks. It's pretty, but it's still a rock." OK, no problem. Gems are rocks. But that's exactly like saying that books are papers, beautiful women are cells, or that genius is thinking. Yes, they are rocks. But they are the incredibly beautiful elite of rocks. I've seen gems that are so perfectly cut, flawless and lustrous that they would bring tears to anyone's eyes.

Rubies, for example. Most people that shun gemstones as stupid have never seen a ruby. Or they might have seen rubies, but those heavily imperfect ones from the thrift shop. Even though most gemstones are very ugly I admit, Each ruby or other fine cut, no or rare inclusions and vibrant color (thus beautiful) gemstone is a living testimony to perfection. While of course for most people gemstones are incredibly expensive to own, owning it to me is like owning a piece of art, a great, beautiful testimony of nature's greatness that shines its beauty upon me.

For example, please look at this:

Pay attention to the first pic. This piece of Garnet shines with so many different reds that all perfectly fit with each other, and at the same time it has that air of blackness and luxury. I can really give a personality to this beauty.

Gemstones are the universe's artistic medium.

The Mosque

Yesterday, my friend Khalil decided to go and pray in the mosque for a change. I've never been to a mosque, being indeed a muslim in hereditary meaning, but following the atheist spirituality. But anyway, i decided to go along and visit the mosque for a change.
We went to Sayyid Mohammad-Hussein Fadlallah's mosque, which is a huge mosque near our neighbourhood. Before going inside, we had to be searched by security guards. Asking Khalil why, i got back the answer "So that no israeli spies can plant a bomb or something."

He had a point, kinda. In the few lebanese civil war and post-war years, (1990-1993) It has been known for israelis to blow up mosques, or assasinate military or religious islamic leaders.
Anyway, I had to keep my cell phone with the security guard and step inside, remove my shoes, and go into the prayer room.

The prayer room was humongous. It's a huge, huge, huge, huge, huge room with a ceiling going like 5 stories up. There was also a second prayer room somewhere for the women muslims, for men and women pray in different rooms (no idea why). When we got inside, people were sitting on the equally large carpet, listening to the sermon some sheikh was giving, about the kindness and love of God. It was nice to hear overall, and then it was time for prayer.

At prayertime, all the men gathered in the center of the room, stood and prayed rythmically. I went along and stood with them, and then suddenly they all kneeled (part of the islamic prayer). I don't know how to pray so I was the only one not to kneel, and I was pretty embarrased by then so i left the prayer circle. After the prayer ended i wandered around searching for Khalil, and found him sitting alone at the back of the room reading some religious books (there was a small bookshelf in the prayer room). Anyway, he informed me that the mosque had a public library for everyone, so we can go and check it out.

The library was incredible. Two stories high, filled with wonderful books of all subjects. Indeed when i asked the librarian if they had english books, she replied that they have everything from Harry Potter to Darwin. YES, DARWIN!!!!! A RELIGIOUS CENTER HAD BOOKS ABOUT EVOLUTION FROM DARWIN THAT COMPLETELY CONTRADICT THE CREATION THEORY OF THE KORAN AND THE BIBLE!

I could spend my whole day in that library. They have Plato, Socrates, Freud, J.K Rowling, everything to make me happy. They even have internet computers that you can use for the low fee of 1000L.L per hour (about 75 cents per hour)

There was a small shop outside the Mosque for religious equipment (like Korans, Religious discs and sermon records, prayer carpets...). I passed by on our way home and bought a compass that points to the direction of the Kaaba, the holy stone that muslims pray in the direction of.

Why am i writing this article? To give christians a chance to see that Islam is a completely peaceful and wise religion, and that's coming from an atheist, even. But for you god-beleivers out there, Christians, please realise that all the things you have been hearing about Islam are media propaganda, and that Islam is a very peaceful, friendly and deep religion, like christianism. There are some people, however, like terrorists, who exploit it wrongly. And there are some governments who supress women rights wrongly. The supression of women is not part of Islam. The only things women are required to do is to hide THEIR HAIR ONLY NOT THEIR WHOLE FACE with a thin veil, and not to let their ankles show.

In other news, Version 6 is going along nicely, i've had it submitted to cssreboot, which means that the release date will indeed be on May 1rst.

Cheerio.

Real beauty

This is, to me, real beauty:

Honestly. I've been given a computer at the age of 4. I've spent more than half my life in front of said computer, to be followed by newer versions of the invention, eventually leading to the mac I am using to type this post.

I learn english by myself, without any help, at the age of 7. People are amazed. I am happy. This enables me to use the internet, and thus all begins.

Thus, I've been obsessed with computers, increasing my knowledge about them for all of my conscious life. This came at the dear expense of real friendships, long hours of staring at walls who laugh at my face, for they are walls and are not forced to think and live. At the expense of learning skills, at the expense of physical health, at the expense of social and emotional relations, and I have risked all that I can say, just to sit eleven years, eleven god forsaken years in front of this computer and learn.

I've been separated from the other people. I've written my hate out. I define emotions as weaknesses just to protect myself against my own fear.

Books, music, creation, composition follow.

And then, love. Admiration. Which leads to self-hate because I will never be able to relate with said humans, they have grown differently. The jigsaw peices of their minds are linked in a different manner.

But I learn. and then I find that people who did not have to sacrifice anything learned all that I know in a few months. Basic programming skills, operating systems, web design, grahpic design, development, and that overall love and attachment to this great internet, the meeting of minds.

My sacrifice of all earthly things has gone to waste. I have sacrificed everything. I should be more than an idiot by now.

But I did all this because I was an idiot in the first place. A lost idiot with the universe forsaking him from all sides.

In society I am forced to show a normal personality, which I do fairly sucessfully. So why am I typing this out?

Quite simply, I have had enough.

The Ice Frontier

Randomness. The illogical. Emotions.

The three things that make us so special.

Sitting there in our cozy houses, we think we are safe. Not from physical threats, But safe from a threat we do not even consciously think about.

The threat of knowledge.

There are so many things we seem so sure about, yet know nothing of. What is the biological basis of consciousness? How is it that, even though we are simply a massive chemical reaction, we are simply there? What i mean to say, how do we realize that we exist? How can we be conscious? What is it that sustains and runs the universe? Why are we not told the reason of our existence? Are you not ashamed to ever have asked yourself these fundamental questions? What goes on behind the curtains of our ignorance?

Since the very beginning of man, since life raised its head into the void, we yearn for those answers. But yet we have never even asked the questions.

So, we find ourselves sitting in this really amazing universe with absolutely no idea how we got here. We build society.
Ah, society. The great, humongous theater of humans acting for the pleasure of each other. The great act to find purpose for ourselves in the other.

“A theater?”, I hear you say in interrogation? Yes. A theater.

Take me for example. I’m a teenager who likes knowledge, reading, computers, art, gemstones, philosophy and some particularly acquired-taste music. All those fields of myself go into such depth that they cannot be given out in any form of communication, because our communication is so limited. Society is limited in the same manner. I can never show my true self in society, nor can any one of us. So we make up what I like to call masks. Small, insignificant personalities to represent us in the community. Who would have thought that someone who keeps annoying the heck out of everyone at break and looking particularly idiotic writes philosophy articles after school? I would love to be like i am in the social world, but we are trained not to accept that. Most people will have no idea what you are doing, and those who do will fake a puzzled expression.

From society evolves religion, love, hate, ambition, and “everyday” life. So we think we finally have something to live for. A purpose.

The reason we are so amazing is that we have the capacity to understand the illogical. Emotions. The random. Mathematics and computers, despite their speed, accuracy and depth, will remain limited and master-able by us primitives because they do not posses these qualities.

We do not even understand what we are. We do not know where our consciousness comes from. Imagine, for a second, if you were the only conscious being in a mass of fake, not conscious human-acting machines. How would you prove that they are deprived from consciousness and self-awareness? You cannot. Imagine, retrospectively, that computers were conscious. You would not be able to prove it.
What if the universe fizzled out in a few moments, and we were all, gone? Simply gone. An incredibly horrifying fact, to cease to exist. We cannot imagine it.

Which brings me to another point. Creativity. We are not creative in the terms that we cannot create something out of nothing. If given a pen and a paper, and all we ever saw our whole lives were pens and papers, we would likely draw something that looks exactly like a pen or a paper. We cannot draw an idea that was not presented to us. The same as we cannot imagine a color that we have not seen. Creativity is the bending of the known, not the invention from no base as many of us like to believe. Our mind is an empty memory bank with a few pre-installed processing skills, waiting to learn from the universe.

Ah, universe, you have made us so perfect yet so empty, without telling us our purpose!
You think you’re not lost? Think again. You are lost.

I wrote that for my school's newspaper. This school seriously does something to most of its students. People of my age greeted me like 12 year olds. (This wasnt today.)

2- Make sure gemstone order goes safely (don't ask)

3- being forced to watch someone that has exposed my weakness and made me love her kiss someone else (thus reinforcing my beleif that love is the weakness of weaknesses and that i should be able to block it out. Unfortunately the girl in question is incredibly smart, intelligent and cute and this is proving to be a hard task for the last 5 months.)

4- Dealing with bad grades and shouting teachers

5- finding 30 minutes to work on design

6- researching future careers.

7- major depression coming from god knows where.

8- trying to find a meaning to my life.

9- Contemplating how ugly, unsocial, fat and stupid i am.

I think the sickness i have is called "a teenage guy growing up".

Oh, and guess what? It's the weekend! yay! just when you think i can finally take a break, i find out that my school has kindly scheduled me saturday morning detention (because i did my homework by writing the answers on a separate sheet of paper, but the teacher wanted me to copy the goddamn questions to the paper for some surely retarded reason.), and that my not-so-wise, not-so-allknowing mother has decided to ground me for the whole week next week because i was grounded by my school.

I'm usually very nice and kind and my temper is very calm usually, but right now, fuck you all.

Social

I'm scheduled to go in an hour and a half to my old school, to meet with with some extremely old friends such as Oday Mansour. Google probably realised that 'talk wasn't living up to their expectations, so what's better than to integrate it with one of their most successful (and related) service? That way, people will start noticing 'talk, use it, and Gmail will be a funner experience in the bundle.

But there's a bad side I want to point out. When gmail started out, the interface was very simple and didn't contain much more than your e-mail messages and a few essential links. However, two months ago (i think it was two months ago, wasn't it?), we saw the addition of the following:

The google Web Clip bar. It's a very thoughtful and nice addition, and makes Gmail a better experience. But let me get to my point:

Those new additions have been steadily cropping up. First the labels tab, then the Web Clips bar, then the Chat bar. Gmail is on its way to becoming the bearer of a really crowded and bloated interface. Until now the interface is very good and the additions are not bloating or crowding the page, but if they keep cropping up; for example, if Google decides to integrate Blogger and GoogleBase with Gmail, we could as well as end up with something like this:

I, for one, am opting to keep gmail as simple and uncrowded as possible, and that only really useful and slim features be added, not just everything we can think of.

Isn't anybody worried?

This is the header you get when you visit Macromedia's website.

Am i the only one whos's concerned, really? Macromedia's ace products have been replaced as "featured products", with Adobe's products taking the headline on Macromedia's site.
I really can't understand why Macromedia sold itself to Adobe. Macromedia had:

1-Flash. And it was rocking the web development world with it.
2-Dreamweaver and Fireworks were Number one web development tools.

And it was steadily drafting out new great products. So why suddenly sell itself?? Because it thought Adobe would take care of it and its products? The executives at Macromedia really lost a dream of a company. Imagine, for one second, Microsoft buying out apple. Would Microsoft keep selling Mac OS X? Would apple still have their special processors inside the hardware? Hell no! Microsoft would just steal all the great ideas in Mac OS X and implement them in their next operating system release.
In fact, what's the only logical reason that would lead to Adobe buying macromedia? It's fear of competition. If your company is big enough to threaten the largest web/graphics development software company in the world, would you just sell your company to it?

I really can't beleive this.
What the hell? How are they integrating it? They simply pushed (or kicked, more like) aside all the macromedia products and displayed their own. They want to turn macromedia into a dead company.
And then we have this guy:

Who looks a lot like the Chesire cat in Alice in Wonderland:

He's Adobe's CEO, Who looks punch-drunk and like the least person on earth i would beleive, telling us macromedia's future, using a macromedia streaming technology to stream his own speech, knowing that he is the head of Adobe.

Doesn't that sound a bit wrong, kids?

Before i post this, I'll make a bet.
